Just arrived in the mail today.
In his latest book, MacArthur insists that we can engage contemporary culture using the same techniques that Christ used to meet head-on the challenges of his day.

Grudem is widely respected, but Reymond and Berkhof are highly recommended as well (some say more so).

Truth Endures is a commemorative book that celebrates John MacArthur’s fortieth anniversary as the Pastor-Teacher of Grace Community Church. It includes twelve of MacArthur’s landmark sermons spanning from 1969-2009, a testimony to how biblical expository preaching of the living Word of God has the timeless power to transform lives.
Phil Johnson writes,
“…this is merely a sampling of John MacArthur’s best-known and most important messages … This book was assembled entirely without John MacArthur’s knowledge, as a surprise to him, to honor him on his golden anniversary in ministry and his fortieth year as pastor of Grace Community Church.”
Also included is a 60-page essay by renowned biographer, Iain H. Murray, which serves as an introduction to the sermons. Murray’s work is not only fascinating in its detail, but it is also insightful in how it places the life and ministry of John MacArthur into historical context.

Looking for a good resource to further your study of God's Word? Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine would make an excellent addition to your library.
>>>Extra Resource: Free MP3s from Grudem's Systematic Theology Class<<<
What is systematic theology? Grudem says the following:
"Many different definitions have been given, but for the purposes of this book the following definition will be used: Systematic theology is any study that answers the question, 'What does the whole Bible teach us today?' about any given topic. This definition indicates that systematic theology involves collecting and understanding all the relevant passages in the Bible on various topics and then summarizing their teachings clearly so that we know what to believe about each topic."
This introduction to systematic theology has several distinctive features:
I find it to be a valuable resource and I certainly agree with the following review from Monergism:
"Consulting Grudem is a pleasure. Even though I do not agree with every point made by Grudem, I highly recommend his Systematic Theology. This is because it is so easy to understand and covers virtually every important topic--even topics that other systematics don’t cover. I have no problem saying that this is the clearest, most accessible systematic theology I have ever read! Grudem has a gift for communication. He lays out the details in terms that are easy to understand. The format of this work is beautiful and highly recommended for beginners." --B. K. Campbell

My wife and I are always looking for good Christian books for our children so we were happy to come across a very helpful resource. Andy and Jenni Naselli have sorted through some theology books for younger children and compiled a short list of outstanding books.

The Valley of Vision is a collection of Puritan prayers & devotions. When asked what books have had a great influence on his life, John MacArthur included The Valley of Vision among them.
Puritans like John Bunyan, Thomas Watson, Richard Baxter, and Isaac Watts knew their hearts, their Bibles, and their God much better than we do. Their prayers reveal a personal, humble, passionate relationship with an awesome God, a living Savior, and an active Spirit. Reading their meditations should inspire us to pursue the same level of reality as we worship God.
I have also been greatly encouraged by an album of songs inspired by The Valley of Vision released by Sovereign Grace Music. Available here or on iTunes.

“Discernment is not a matter of simply telling the difference between what is right and wrong; rather, it is the difference between right and almost right.” -Charles Spurgeon

The other night at our Home Fellowship Group, we briefly discussed a book entitled The Shack (written by William P. Young). Someone who had read the book noted that they saw some doctrinal issues in regards to the trinity. A couple of individuals mentioned that it had been recommended to them by friends and they wanted to know what all of the buzz was about. There is no doubt that it is incredibly popular in Christian circles. Although I have not read it and do not plan on reading it, I expressed my concerns about the book due to some reviews that I have read online. These reviews are from respected sources and I find them to be very discerning. Here are some of those reviews…
